Brantley Gilbert built a grassroots fanbase in and around Georgia before trying his luck in Nashville. His first success was as a songwriter, as he helped pen a number of Colt Ford songs, as well as Jason Aldean's ‘Dirt Road Anthem.’ Ford signed him to his Average Joes record label, but after releasing a couple of singles, Gilbert moved to the Valory Music Co. Along the way, he began to clean up his bad boy image. He quit drinking and made a commitment to every aspect of his craft.
