Richard Tilden Abbey

Richard “Red Man” Tilden Abbey, 78, of Ellisville passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg. He was born Friday, May 18, 1945, in Laurel.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Anderson Minter Cemetery. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Abbey worked many years in construction. He was an avid outdoorsman that spent every afternoon feeding and watching over his many pet deer. He loved to fish and had a wealth of knowledge regarding all things outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents William “Dad” Abbey and Hazel E. Watson Strickland; and grandchild Isaiah Pitts.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years Mary F. Bush Abbey; children Candace Pitts (Anthony), Gray Abbey (Courtney), Krisha Yelverton (Eric) and Dana Reynolds (Randy); grandchildren Richard Pitts, Michael Pitts, Mark Pitts, Casey William Yelverton, Jake Abbey, Tasha Reynolds and Shane Reynolds; brothers-in-law Terry Evelyn and Bobby Sheila; sisters-in-law, Betty Hill and Rachel Lester; close friends Larry Loftin, Gary Norsworthy and Keith Sumrall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
